SMS Opt-In

How text-message consent works in the CirclesMM app.

The program

CirclesMM is a mobile messaging app published by Circles Messaging and Media LLC (Ohio, United States). The app uses SMS for exactly one purpose: delivering a one-time verification code when a user signs up for or signs in to their account. CirclesMM sends no marketing, promotional, or broadcast SMS of any kind.

Where opt-in happens

Opt-in occurs inside the CirclesMM mobile app, on the sign-up screen. There is no web form: a user can only receive a text from CirclesMM by entering their own phone number in the app and tapping Send Code.

The opt-in flow, step by step

  1. The user downloads CirclesMM from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
  2. The user opens the app and taps Sign up.
  3. The user enters their mobile phone number on the sign-up screen. A consent notice is displayed directly beneath the Send Code button, before the user confirms:

  1. The user taps Send Code. CirclesMM sends a one-time 6-digit verification code by SMS from +1 (513) 599-8822.
  2. The user enters the code in the app to verify their number and complete sign-in. No further texts are sent unless the user initiates another sign-in.

This is the live in-app screen where opt-in takes place. The consent notice is visible beneath the Send Code button at the moment of opt-in:

Sample message

CirclesMM: Your verification code is 482913. This code expires in 10 minutes. Reply STOP to opt out.

Message frequency

One message per sign-up or sign-in attempt, sent only when the user initiates it. If a user does not attempt to sign in, they receive no texts. There are no recurring messages.

Privacy
